No Ordinary Canoe

This 17 foot long canoe is made out of red cedar with a hand cane mahogany seat. Handcrafted by the one and only Starr Bowen all the way from Fort Worth Texas. Canoes are in his blood, part of his history, and now hopefully your future.

History Of The Canoe

As told by the creator, Starr Bowen

The canoe is my own adaptation of J.H. Rushton's "Arkansaw Traveler" (they couldn't spell Arkansas in New York state in the 19th c. ). This one is a 17 footer, and the one hanging in Alan Brown's Taj Mahal log cabin is a 16 footer. I decided to build this one when the first one turned out so nicely, and Jeremy wanted to enter it in the Texas Water Safari, which was cancelled anyway and he went to be a hot-shot firefighter in Alaska, now in California. I got the plans from Mystic Seaport after visiting the surviving two canoes of this type in the Adirondack Museum before the pandemic struck.
